Favorite Restaurant
you keep trying to get it right
alcohol
restaurants
tonight’s menu on the placemate again
a sweat-crusted "what?"
he’s just happy to see you—
Jean’s spelled an S.O.S. in white tape
"OWNER CUT POW_ _"
in her loft windows
two letters short of a message
such a huge prize
you order a hamburger,
drink
Moon separated from Jean’s building
electricity separated from her air conditioner
both joined
in a relationship of absence—
Real estate over love
real estate
love
Loneliness lives
in the mind. Real estate
lives around the body
you chose loneliness
over interrupting love
more poets commit suicide than painters
does this make them less__________ or more _____________?
He would ride naked on a horse
dance samba with brooms
still you look on blankly
it kills you,
bitch.
Jean paints with the power cut,
he loves you though you sidestep
though you come back to this place
again and again
trying to get it right
its moon and the message
written very nearly
clearly before you—

The list goes on, soon enough reaching the book in our own hands. Every line seems soaked with the sweat of labor. If a creative writing text ever raised a call to the barricades, its this one.
The Jerk Comes Full Circle: Reflections on Developing, Dramaturging, and Directing Fake Friends’ Cinematic and Theatrical Feat
By Rory Pelsue, Cat Rodríguez, and Ariel SibertDEC 20-JAN 21 | Theater
In October, as theaters remained dark for a seventh consecutive month and the content-starved internet feasted on memes to ready itself for the long, dry winter, a new performance-media company emerged from the sweat non-profit theaters drowned in while trying to stay afloat: Fake Friends was born, and so was a hybrid art form.

The Cursed Painter
By Jean FrémonMAY 2019 | Critics Page
For example, Lantier claimed that he'd rather die of hunger than cave in to commerce, which for him included doing portraits for bourgeois clients, an activity he considered on a par with painting restaurant awnings and baubles for churches.
